India Condemns Attack That Injured 11 Crew

India's Ministry of External Affairs condemned an attack that injured 11 Indian crew members aboard the Panama‑flagged MT On Peace, officials said.

The ministry said the vessel, MT On Peace (IMO 9893204), was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman. The ship had 19 crew in total, 17 of whom were Indian nationals; 12 crew members were injured, including 11 Indians, and with assistance from Omani authorities the injured were evacuated and are receiving medical treatment in Khasab, Oman, the statement said.

MT On Peace struck off Oman

The incident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy shipping lane. If attacks or near‑misses disrupt transits or force rerouting, they can reduce tanker availability and create short‑term pressure on oil freight and spot markets.

India's condemnation signals diplomatic escalation and a focus on consular support for injured nationals. Officials said they are coordinating with Omani authorities; the ministry's statement did not name the shipowner or attribute responsibility for the strike.

Monitor for official updates by Oct. 8, 2026. Watch for statements from Omani authorities or the vessel operator and any moves in freight rates or benchmark oil prices over the next 48 hours.
