Gold Shines as Iran Deal Hopes Rise

Gold Gains on U.S.-Iran Deal Hopes Gold prices increased on Friday, May 8, 2026, positioning the precious metal for a weekly gain, as investor optimism regarding a potential U.S.-Iran peace deal outweighed renewed hostilities. Spot gold rose 0.7% to $4,715.49 per ounce by 0407 GMT, marking a 2.2% increase for the week. U.S. gold futures for June delivery also saw a 0.3% rise, reaching $4,725.

The market reaction occurred despite an exchange of fire between the United States and Iran on Thursday, which tested a month-long ceasefire. However, both nations subsequently indicated a de-escalation, with Iran stating the situation returned to normal and the U.S. expressing no desire for escalation. This sentiment, coupled with comments from the Trump administration affirming the ceasefire, supported gold prices.

Investors are also awaiting the monthly U.S. employment report, due later on Friday, to gauge its implications for the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. Economists surveyed by sources anticipate nonfarm payrolls to have increased by 62,000 in April, following a 178,000 rise in March. Other precious metals also saw gains, with spot silver up 1.8% to $79.85 per ounce, platinum gaining 1.6% to $2,054.22, and palladium rising 1.8% to $1,508.16.
