Belgium and the World Health Organization have concluded a three-day strategic dialogue to synchronize development cooperation priorities with the organization’s 14th General Programme of Work. The discussions focused on institutionalizing support for universal health coverage, health-system resilience, and equitable access to medical technologies.
Both parties reached a consensus on the necessity of aligning bilateral country-level programs with multilateral health initiatives. This integration aims to improve operational efficiency in key regions, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Mozambique. The framework emphasizes long-term sustainability for the Access to Medicines program and market-shaping strategies.
Negotiations also addressed the global health emergency architecture, specifically pandemic preparedness and the One Health approach. The parties reviewed ongoing risk mitigation strategies regarding biological threats and zoonotic diseases. Future collaboration will be governed by a renewed multi-year agreement, prioritizing evidence-based interventions in primary health care, mental health, and reproductive rights to ensure sustained multilateral engagement.
