Incident details in Esenyurt

Law enforcement officials in Istanbul have taken a 51-year-old individual, identified as H.Ö., into custody following a violent confrontation on the road. The suspect is accused of discharging a firearm at a car driven by Yusuf Enis Güler, which was transporting two minors, aged 10 and 14, at the time of the encounter.

Escalation of a traffic dispute

Reports indicate that the altercation began when the driver stopped to allow pedestrians to cross the street in the Osmangazi neighborhood. The suspect, traveling behind the vehicle, reportedly reacted with aggressive horn usage and verbal abuse. When the driver responded to the provocation, the suspect allegedly brandished a weapon from his vehicle window.

Pursuit and gunfire

As the driver attempted to leave the scene to ensure the safety of his younger siblings, the suspect pursued the vehicle. Despite the presence of children inside the car, the suspect fired two shots, which struck the rear window and the trunk of the vehicle. The driver managed to record portions of the incident using a mobile device.

Legal proceedings and evidence

Following a report filed by the victim, police units located and detained H.Ö. shortly thereafter. A search of the suspect's residence resulted in the seizure of an air pistol, various rounds of ammunition, and two knives. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the suspect on charges including armed threats, attempted injury, and property damage.

Broader implications

This event highlights ongoing concerns regarding road rage and the potential for traffic disputes to escalate into life-threatening situations. While no physical injuries were reported among the occupants, the incident has drawn attention to the risks posed by individuals carrying weapons in public spaces. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect's actions and potential prior history.
