Formula 1 Expands Calendar to 24 Races, Adds 10 Sprint Events for 2027

Formula 1's 2027 World Championship calendar will feature 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries, maintaining the current event volume while enhancing geographical flow. The schedule includes the return of races in Portugal and Türkiye, balancing historic circuits with new markets.

Sprint Events Increase to Ten

The number of Sprint events is set to expand from six to 10 for the 2027 season. This increase is driven by internal data, which indicates higher viewership and increased fan engagement on Sprint weekends compared to standard event formats. Since the Sprint format was introduced in 2021, total viewership for Sprint weekends has shown a 12 percent increase over non-Sprint weekends. Additionally, 82 percent of attendees at Sprint weekends report that the format adds value to their ticket.

Operational Coordination Challenges

Operational risks and logistical demands are expected to remain high due to the global nature of the 24-race schedule, which spans five continents. The increased frequency of Sprint events will require heightened coordination among teams, promoters, and governing bodies to ensure sporting standards and commercial performance are maintained throughout the extended season.

Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi are slated to host Sprint events for the first time in 2027. These additions aim to provide fans with more competitive action, including two qualifying sessions in Monaco.
