Yankees option Anthony Volpe to Triple-A after shoulder-surgery rehab stint

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, May 2, as he continues his return from offseason surgery on his lesources shoulder.

Volpe started at shortstop for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a game against Worcester and went 2-for-4 with a double in a 7-6 loss.

The Yankees’ decision came with the club keeping José Caballero on the major league roster at shortstop. Asked about the move, Volpe said: “There are things I can control [and] things I can’t. I’m ready to go here.”

The organization has not ruled out using Volpe at multiple infield positions during his time in Triple-A. The possibility is notable with top prospect George Lombard Jr. now on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre roster and expected to be part of the infield mix.
