Disney, NFL Stalled on Broadcast Deal

ESPN, Disney Not Yet Engaged on NFL Renewal ESPN and its parent company, Disney, have not initiated early renewal discussions with the National Football League (NFL) regarding their current broadcasting agreement for "Monday Night Football." This information was confirmed by Disney CFO Hugh Johnston during an investor call on Wednesday. The existing contract between ESPN and the NFL is scheduled to conclude in 2030.

The current NFL broadcasting landscape involves multiple partners, with agreements with CBS, Fox, NBC, Prime Video, and YouTube (for Sunday Ticket) extending through 2029. ESPN's deal, which includes the prominent Monday night package, is set to expire one year later. Disney maintains an open stance on future negotiations, indicating a willingness to engage with the NFL to explore new growth opportunities and continue their long-standing business relationship.

The NFL recently acquired a 10% stake in ESPN, a development that could influence future negotiations. Disney's approach to any potential renewal will prioritize shareholder value and financial discipline, according to Johnston.
