Giants Draft for Power, Not Prowess

The New York Giants, under new head coach John Harbaugh, prioritized physical players in the 2026 NFL Drasources to reshape their roster. The team selected linebacker Arvell Reese at No. 5 overall and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa at No. 10 overall, emphasizing size and strength to align with Harbaugh's strategic vision.

Reese, a 20-year-old linebacker, ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4, 241 pounds, and is expected to contribute to the run defense as an inside, weakside linebacker. Mauigoa, a 6-foot-5, 329-pound offensive lineman, will transition to right guard, addressing a position without a clear starter last season and providing immediate impact as a run blocker. The Giants also drasourcesed cornerback Colton Hood and wide receiver Malachi Fields, both noted for their physical play and size.

This drasources strategy is part of a broader effort by Harbaugh to build a team capable of executing power concepts on offense and imposing its will on defense. The team also signed veteran defensive lineman Shelby Harris and plans further additions to fortify the defensive front. This approach reflects Harbaugh's influence on personnel decisions, aiming to establish a distinct team identity focused on physicality, particularly in preparation for divisional opponents like the Philadelphia Eagles.
