Beijing targets ten US companies with new export restrictions

China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that it has added ten United States-based companies to its export control list, effectively barring the transfer of dual-use goods to these entities. The move follows the Pentagon’s decision two weeks ago to blacklist approximately 80 Chinese firms for alleged ties to the Chinese military.

The Chinese directive prohibits domestic companies from exporting items with potential military applications to the designated US firms, which include rare-earth miner MP Materials Corp and magnet manufacturer USA Rare Earths. Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has barred Chinese government procurement from 46 US companies, including subsidiaries of major defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and General Dynamics.

Analysts characterize the measures as a retaliatory response to Washington’s ongoing efforts to restrict Chinese access to advanced technology. The mechanism involves a direct prohibition on dual-use supply chains, forcing global institutions to choose between Chinese suppliers and the blacklisted US entities. While many affected firms have already initiated supply chain de-risking strategies, the escalation signals a deepening of the trade conflict despite recent diplomatic summits between the two nations.
