Broncos agree terms with UFL returner Sean Fresch Jr.

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with cornerback and return specialist Sean Fresch Jr., adding a United Football League (UFL) standout to their offseason roster. The move was reported Monday, June 17, and gives Denver another option to compete for return duties and core special-teams roles. Fresch earned all-league honors with the St. Louis Battlehawks during the 2024 UFL season.

Fresch’s clearest path to an NFL roster spot is expected to run through special teams, where return production and coverage work often decide jobs at the back end of the depth chart. Denver’s agreement with Fresch adds competition to that part of the roster as the offseason program moves toward training camp.

During the 2024 UFL season, Fresch handled both punt and kickoff returns across 10 games. He returned 32 punts for 333 yards and added three kickoff returns for 85 yards, numbers that helped earn him all-league recognition.

All-league return production in the UFL

The Broncos are bringing in Fresch after a spring in which he was a steady presence in the return game for St. Louis. Punt-return volume and ball security are often central to how teams evaluate return candidates, and Fresch’s usage suggests he was trusted in that role throughout the season.

Denver’s decision to add a spring-league returner also fits a wider league pattern of using the UFL as a pipeline for special-teams contributors and depth players, particularly for roles that can be won in camp through repeated reps.

Defensive snaps add secondary depth

Fresch also contributed on defense for the Battlehawks. He finished the season with 29 tackles, four pass breakups and two sacks, providing evidence he can contribute beyond the return game while he competes for a place on an NFL roster.

Officials also noted he worked out with the Houston Texans last week, indicating he had interest elsewhere before Denver reached an agreement. Fresch will now try to translate his spring-league production into a role in the Broncos’ defensive backfield and special-teams units during camp.

Next, Fresch’s chances are expected to depend on his effectiveness as a punt and kickoff returner and whether he can add value on coverage units while pushing for defensive snaps.
