Maxx Crosby returns to Raiders camp after meniscus repair

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby has returned to full-contact training camp in Henderson, Nevada, after completing a seven-month rehabilitation for a torn meniscus. Officials said Crosby underwent surgery in January 2026, ending a recovery process that followed an injury he played through during the previous NFL season.

The Raiders have cleared Crosby, 28, for full participation without restrictions. Teammates said he showed immediate burst during team drills on the second day of camp, a sign the team views as an important step as it builds toward the upcoming season.

Practice rules designed around Crosby’s intensity

Raiders coaches have added specific practice protocols to manage Crosby’s high-motor style while easing him back into the defensive rotation. Head coach Klint Kubiak and defensive coordinator Rob Leonard are among those overseeing the approach, officials said.

A key is limiting accidental contact with quarterbacks in camp settings. The safeguards are also meant to protect new teammate Kirk Cousins, while still allowing Crosby to work through full-speed reps and timing as he returns to regular participation.

Offseason absence, then a quick impact in camp Crosby missed the entire offseason program, but teammates said his transition into camp action has been noticeable. Coaches have already adjusted practice play-calling in response to his ability to disrupt plays, officials said.

The return also resolves earlier uncertainty about his availability this year. That doubt was heightened after reports of a failed trade agreement involving the Baltimore Ravens, leaving questions about how quickly he would be able to resume full work on the field.

Players cite explosiveness and recovery discipline

Crosby acknowledged the new camp rules and said he has to rein in his intensity to avoid practice penalties while still playing his game. The team is balancing competitiveness with controlled situations designed to reduce risk during contact periods.

Linebacker Quay Walker pointed to how quickly Crosby looked like himself, saying, “I don’t think you can really tell that he went through what he went through last year, honestly.” Officials said the Raiders will continue monitoring how Crosby fits back into defensive schemes as camp progresses. The focus is on maintaining his health while maximizing his role as a central piece of the defense, with the team continuing to evaluate workload and contact management over the remainder of camp.
