At least 11 killed in Ukrainian and Russian strikes as holiday camp hit

At least 11 people were killed in separate drone and missile strikes across Ukraine and Russian-occupied territories on Friday and Saturday. The casualties occurred as both nations intensified long-range aerial campaigns, resulting in significant civilian infrastructure damage and cross-border security incidents.

In the Russian-held Zaporizhia region, local authorities reported that a suspected Ukrainian strike on a holiday camp in Kyrylivka killed eight people, including two children, and wounded 14 others. Simultaneously, a Russian drone strike in Ukraine's Sumy region targeted a civilian facility, killing three employees of the private courier service Nova Poshta. These events follow a broader escalation in hostilities, including a separate strike near Kyiv that resulted in 10 fatalities and nearly 100 injuries.

The conflict also impacted NATO territory, as the Romanian Ministry of Defence confirmed that an F-16 pilot intercepted a drone that breached its airspace near the Ukrainian border. This marks the latest in a series of aerial incursions affecting Romania since the onset of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. While both Moscow and Kyiv deny targeting non-combatants, the frequency of strikes on civilian-adjacent sites has increased throughout the summer, heightening regional tensions and prompting warnings of further large-scale military activity.
