Anthropic Taps SpaceX for AI Supercomputing Power

Anthropic Secures SpaceXAI Compute Resources Anthropic, an artificial intelligence research company, announced on Wednesday an agreement to utilize computing resources from SpaceXAI's data center in Memphis, Tennessee. This partnership provides Anthropic with access to approximately 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, totaling over 300 megawatts of capacity from SpaceXAI's Colossus 1 supercomputer.

The collaboration aims to enhance Anthropic's capacity for its Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers, addressing recent developer complaints regarding rate limits and service disruptions due to computational resource constraints.

The agreement follows the merger of Elon Musk's SpaceX and xAI earlier this year, forming SpaceXAI. This strategic alliance is significant for SpaceXAI, which is preparing for a potential public offering as early as next month. A partnership with a prominent AI laboratory like Anthropic could strengthen investor confidence in SpaceXAI's plans to expand its data center infrastructure, including potential future ventures into orbital AI compute capacity.

Anthropic's increased computational needs reflect broader industry trends, with sosourcesware developers reportedly spending an average of 20 hours per week utilizing services like Claude Code. This demand has led to significant investments in cloud computing, with Anthropic previously committing to spend $200 billion on Google's AI cloud services and TPU chips, and over $100 billion with Amazon technologies over the next decade.

These contracts collectively account for more than half of the $2 trillion in backlogs reported by major cloud providers.
