US hosts Trump-Xi state banquet; Chinese CEOs absent

President Trump hosted President Xi at a Washington state banquet on Thursday, with no senior Chinese CEO delegation confirmed, officials said.

Markets showed little immediate movement; officials said the absence of a business delegation could reduce expectations of new commercial initiatives tied to the summit.

No Chinese CEO delegation

Officials said a week before the summit they had expected a delegation of Chinese business leaders to travel to Washington. The officials said those plans did not materialize and that Xi arrived without senior corporate executives on his public guest list.

The White House provided a guest roster that included US business figures but, officials said, listed no comparable Chinese CEOs. Diplomats cautioned that a guest list is not a full measure of economic engagement and that private meetings or follow-up contacts can occur outside the banquet program.

Officials said the configuration of guests carries diplomatic signal value because state banquets are a visible stage for business networking. They added that absence of a corporate delegation may temper immediate commercial announcements from the summit.

Officials said they expect Washington and Beijing to issue a joint economic or trade-related statement by September 25, 2026, outlining any agreed follow-up steps.
