United States President Donald Trump has indicated a shift in foreign policy focus toward North Korea’s nuclear program following the conclusion of a framework agreement with Iran. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung confirmed the development on June 19, 2026, following discussions with Trump during the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France.

The potential policy pivot follows reports that existing sanctions against Pyongyang have proven ineffective, largely due to deepening military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
