Warner Bros. Executives Achieve Record Success

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy achieved significant box office and awards success in 2025, despite earlier reports of potential replacement. Their films collectively grossed over $4 billion worldwide, with 11 releases, nine of which opened at the top of the domestic box office. Seven consecutive films grossed more than $40 million domestically, setting a new record. Warner Bros. films held the top domestic box office spot for 15 weeks and the global spot for 16 weeks, securing three positions among the year's top 10 highest-grossing films.

This performance culminated in 30 Academy Award nominations, tying the studio's all-time record. Notable nominations included 16 for "Sinners" and 13 for "One Battle After Another," which is considered a frontrunner for Best Picture. This success followed a period in March 2025 where Bloomberg reported Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was interviewing replacements for De Luca and Abdy, after a series of less successful films.

De Luca and Abdy, who became co-chairs and co-CEOs in 2022, have since had their contracts renewed. Their tenure has been marked by navigating industry changes, including recent speculation surrounding Warner Bros.' potential acquisition by Paramount.
