Chinese robotics manufacturer Geek+ has established the United Kingdom as its primary European market, deploying over 2,000 autonomous mobile robots across 10 domestic warehouse sites. The expansion, facilitated by local partner MotionTech, targets the UK retail sector to address persistent productivity stagnation and labor shortages within logistics industry.

The deployment utilizes autonomous mobile robots that navigate via QR code floor markers, offering a flexible alternative to traditional fixed conveyor systems. By automating shelf transport and picking processes, retailers including Tesco, Asda, and Next aim to increase storage density and order processing speeds. This shift is supported by OECD data, which identifies robotics as a critical mechanism for improving the UK's historically low productivity growth.

The mechanism driving this adoption relies on China's integrated industrial ecosystem, where components developed for the electric vehicle sector—such as sensors, semiconductors, and batteries—are repurposed for robotics production. This supply chain efficiency allows for rapid scaling and cost-effective deployment. While the Trades Union Congress has called for worker retraining to accompany these technological shifts, the trend toward end-to-end unmanned warehouse solutions is expected to accelerate as firms seek to reduce operational footprints and mitigate labor dependency over the next decade.
