Oura Delays IPO Amid Litigation Over Biometric Accuracy Claims
Oura has delayed its IPO while defending a lawsuit alleging deceptive marketing regarding the clinical accuracy of its wearable sleep-tracking technology.

Oura has postponed its planned initial public offering, citing current market uncertainty. The company maintains that it retains the flexibility to time its market entry to maximize value for stakeholders.
Simultaneously, the firm faces a class-action lawsuit in San Francisco alleging that its wearable devices overstate the accuracy of sleep-tracking metrics. Plaintiffs contend that the company’s reliance on heart rate, movement, and temperature data is insufficient for clinical sleep staging, which typically requires electroencephalogram-based monitoring.

In response, the company has committed to a legal defense, asserting that its internal research validates the performance of its sensors. Management emphasizes that its devices are intended for health awareness rather than clinical diagnosis, aiming to facilitate patient-physician dialogue.
To expand its market position, the company is introducing new features, including blood pressure trend monitoring and GLP-1 medication tracking. These additions are designed to address chronic disease management, though they remain subject to the same regulatory and accuracy scrutiny currently being challenged in court.
