Russian Drone Strike Near NATO Border Sets Fire

A Russian drone struck a passenger train two kilometres from the Polish border on Monday, setting a nearby gas station on fire and prompting warnings about strikes nearing NATO territory.

Officials said emergency teams responded to the blaze; no immediate casualty figures were released.

Diplomatic train may have been targeted

Ukraine's railway operator said a diplomatic train carrying European officials had travelled the same route earlier and that the diplomatic train may have been the intended target, an allegation officials did not immediately corroborate.

Kyiv warned the incident showed Russian strikes were moving dangerously close to EU and NATO territory and that allies were monitoring the situation. Officials said security services had opened an inquiry and were coordinating with border authorities to establish whether the strike breached territorial limits.

Investigators have begun on-site work and officials said preliminary findings would be shared within 72 hours.

If the inquiry confirms the strike threatened NATO-border infrastructure, allies could face political and security choices over consultations and force posture in the coming days.
