Oracle files force majeure for 2.45GW datacenter

Oracle announced it has filed a force majeure notice for Project Jupiter, its 2.45 gigawatt data center development in New Mexico, citing delays to a natural gas pipeline that would supply the site and outstanding energy permits. Reaction in energy and power markets is pending.

Officials said the filing reflects a bottleneck on the natural-gas line intended to feed one of the Stargate network's largest data centers, together with permit approvals that remain unresolved. The company reported the combination is putting pressure on the project's planned 2028 commissioning window.

The shortfall in on-site fuel supply could force operators to rely on interim power arrangements or scaled commissioning, increasing near-term demand for regional pipeline capacity and grid balancing services. Data showed the site’s planned 2.45 GW load would rank it among the largest single-site energy draws in the state if built to schedule.

If the natural-gas feed and permits are not secured by June 30, 2027, the project would have insufficient time to complete construction and testing to meet a 2028 commissioning window, extending lead times for contractors and shifting demand across the regional energy supply chain.
