Lucid Motors has initiated a workforce reduction of approximately 1,500 employees, representing 18% of its total staff. This follows a 12% reduction implemented in February, marking the second major downsizing effort for the company this year. The measures are intended to reduce operating expenses and align production capacity with current market demand.
As part of the restructuring, the company is eliminating the second shift at its Casa Grande, Arizona, manufacturing facility. These actions are projected to yield $158 million in savings, net of $32 million in severance and transition costs. The company stated these steps are essential to achieving profitability and positive cash flow.
Executive leadership changes accompany these operational adjustments, including the departure of the Chief Operating Officer. The company has formally eliminated the COO position as part of its organizational streamlining. These developments occur under the tenure of the new CEO appointed in April, following the resignation of the previous leadership.
