Defence authorities and regional air-traffic controllers are examining radar and communications logs to establish the missile’s flight path and whether the strike crossed international flight corridors, officials said.

The incident occurred during a heavy night of strikes across the theatre, officials said, and is being monitored by allied commands for any signs of escalation. Officials said contingency protocols for airspace deconfliction were activated during the response and that diplomatic channels had been notified.

Officials said they would provide a further operational update by August 16 on the investigation findings and any follow-up measures.
