Israel destroys Hezbollah underground base in Lebanon

The Israeli military said on Sept. 11 it destroyed an underground Hezbollah base beneath Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, a position that overlooks cross‑border approaches and risks regional escalation.

Officials said the complex sat below the hilltop and had been the scene of intense fighting in recent days as forces contested observation and access to surrounding valleys.

The Israeli military said the targeted site was a subterranean facility it attributed to Hezbollah; officials provided no immediate casualty figures. Local topography gives the ridge commanding lines of sight across the adjacent border, officials said, making it a tactically sensitive objective.

Security analysts said the strike increases the short-term risk of retaliatory fire or cross-border exchanges. Analysts pointed to the next 72 hours as the critical window for any immediate response, noting that a sustained escalation could push regional risk premia and prompt diplomatic pressure on external backers.

Security officials said they were monitoring communications and troop dispositions on both sides of the frontier. Regional analysts said the period through Sept. 14 will be decisive for whether the incident remains isolated or triggers a broader exchange of strikes.
