Drone hits Kyiv–Warsaw train near Poland

A drone struck a Kyiv–Warsaw passenger train about two kilometers from the Polish border, damaging its locomotive but causing no injuries, Ukrainian Railways said.

Ukrainian Railways said its aerial-monitoring team detected the approaching threat and warned the train crew before impact; the operator said the locomotive was damaged while passengers and staff were unhurt. The train was travelling west from Kyiv toward Warsaw when the strike occurred near Kostrytsia in Ukraine’s Volyn region.

Officials said a separate drone struck a petrol station near the Yahodyn–Dorohusk border crossing, setting buildings and parked lorries on fire and temporarily halting operations there. Local emergency services attended the scene and the crossing reopened after firefighting and safety checks, officials said.

Officials added there was no indication either drone entered Polish airspace or struck NATO territory. They warned the proximity of the incidents to the alliance’s frontier was of concern to European security planners and said authorities were coordinating monitoring and investigations.

Officials said they were monitoring for follow-up strikes over the next 48 hours and urged readouts of further incident reports to determine any cross-border implications.
