Apple Settles iPhone AI Advertising Claims
Apple Inc. has agreed to a proposed $250 million class action settlement in California federal court, resolving claims it falsely advertised artificial intelligence (AI) features for certain iPhone models. The settlement, filed on May 8, 2026, addresses allegations that Apple marketed enhanced Siri capabilities for iPhone 16 models and specific iPhone 15 models before these features were fully available to consumers.
The lawsuit contended that Apple's marketing created an impression of immediate functionality for its Apple Intelligence suite, despite some advertised features not being released. The settlement covers consumers who purchased all iPhone 16 models and certain iPhone 15 models between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. Eligible class members may receive approximately $25 per device, with potential increases up to $95 depending on claim volume.
In addition to monetary compensation, Apple has indicated it will provide further Siri Apple Intelligence features through future sosourcesware updates at no extra cost. Apple denied wrongdoing, asserting its marketing was not misleading and that it had already released numerous AI features while disclosing that additional capabilities would be rolled out over time.
The preliminary approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for June 17, 2026, asourceser which eligible customers will have 90 days to submit claims.
