The sale of the Seattle Seahawks, initiated in February by the estate of Paul G. Allen, is reportedly generating sosourceser-than-expected interest from potential buyers, according to multiple NFL owners and executives. Despite initial speculation of an $11 billion valuation, industry insiders now anticipate the franchise will sell for slightly above $9 billion, which would still constitute a record price for an NFL team.
This subdued interest contrasts with recent NFL franchise sales, such as the Denver Broncos for $4.65 billion in 2022 and the Washington Commanders for $6.05 billion in 2023. The limited pool of potential buyers is attributed to the high asking price, requiring significant liquid capital and a 30% cash down payment under NFL rules.
Additionally, the prospect of a new stadium requirement in the coming years and the NBA's exploration of an expansion team in Seattle may be diverting potential investors.
While the situation remains fluid, sources indicate that individuals like Aditya Mittal and Vinod Khosla are preparing bids. The NFL anticipates the sale process will extend into the 2026 season. The Allen estate has maintained that there is no new information to share regarding the sale.
