Amazon.com said on Monday, May 4, that it is launching “Amazon Supply Chain Services,” making its logistics network available to other businesses.
The company said businesses of all sizes will be able to use Amazon’s integrated supply-chain capabilities to move, store and deliver goods, including freight, distribution, fulfillment and parcel shipping.
Amazon said the offering gives companies access to its transportation network spanning ocean, air, ground and rail freight. The network is supported by a fleet of more than 80,000 trailers, 24,000 intermodal containers and more than 100 aircrasources.
Consumer goods maker Procter & Gamble, industrial firm 3M and apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters are among the first clients, Amazon said.
The announcement weighed on shares of some established logistics companies in premarket trading. UPS was down 1.5% and FedEx fell 2.5%.
