Anthropic Co-founder Urges AI Regulation

Jack Clark, co-founder of artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, advocated for the implementation of regulatory mechanisms to control AI development, stating that the technology is approaching autonomous progression. Speaking recently, Clark emphasized the need for a "brake pedal" in the AI industry, drawing parallels to the regulation of the oil industry in the early 20th century.

Clark highlighted that Anthropic's chatbot, Claude, currently operates on code that is 80% self-generated, with the potential to reach 100% within two years. This advancement, he noted, would have significant implications for human oversight. Despite these concerns, Anthropic recently welcomed a U.S. presidential executive order on AI that did not mandate government safety testing, leaving such efforts voluntary.

Anthropic, founded five years ago, is preparing for a public stock market debut, with private investors estimating its valuation at nearly $1 trillion. Clark stated the company's public discussions on AI capabilities are intended to inform the world about the technology's rapid advancements and potential risks, rather than to enhance its commercial reputation.
