Modi Schedules Six Bilateral Meetings at BRICS

Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral meetings with six leaders on the BRICS summit sidelines, officials said, underpinning his push for greater UN Security Council representation.

Officials said those meetings will be with the leaders of Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Egypt, South Africa, Burundi and Nigeria and are scheduled during the BRICS summit.

Officials said leaders unanimously adopted the New Delhi Declaration 2026, which condemns the Pahalgam terror attack and calls for stronger international action against terrorism.

Officials said the declaration expressed concern about unilateral tariffs and sanctions imposed without United Nations Security Council approval and called for disputes to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

Officials said the text emphasised preventing wars and avoiding nuclear confrontation, underlined the importance of uninterrupted global energy flows, and urged reforms to global institutions to increase Global South participation in future technologies and international rule-setting.

Officials said the declaration also recorded support from Russia and China for India’s aspirations for a greater role at the UN Security Council. The document, officials said, ties those governance calls to trade and technology cooperation among BRICS members.

Officials said the six bilateral meetings are scheduled for September 13, 2026; officials added that leaders’ joint statements and any memoranda of understanding are expected by September 14, 2026.
