Uber Technologies has reached a definitive agreement to acquire German delivery firm Delivery Hero for $14.8 billion, a move designed to consolidate global food delivery operations. The transaction, expected to close in the second half of 2027, values Delivery Hero shares at €41.50 and integrates brands across 99 countries, including foodpanda, PedidosYa, and talabat. The acquisition functions as a scale-driven strategy to mitigate high operating costs within the competitive delivery sector. By combining Uber Eats with Delivery Hero’s infrastructure, the firm aims to leverage cross-platform utility, as data indicates customers utilizing both mobility and delivery services spend three times more on the platform. To address potential antitrust concerns, private equity firm SSW Partners will acquire Delivery Hero operations in 14 markets for $1.6 billion, preventing market dominance in regions where Uber already maintains a significant presence.
The financial structure of the deal involves a net payment of $13.7 billion, accounting for Uber’s existing 25 percent stake in the company. Uber has committed to maintaining Delivery Hero’s Berlin headquarters and current workforce levels through 2029, alongside a planned €2 billion investment in Germany over the next five years. The combined entity reported $236 billion in total orders during 2025, signaling a shift toward market consolidation as firms seek to achieve profitability through increased operational density.
