Trump Administration Halts Wind Projects

U.S. Wind Development Stalled by National Security Concerns The Trump administration has halted approximately 165 U.S. onshore wind development projects, citing national security concerns, according to a report published on Sunday. The Pentagon is reportedly holding up approvals for these projects, which are located on private lands.

The affected projects encompass various stages of development, including those awaiting final sign-off, others in negotiation, and some that typically would not require Pentagon oversight. Since August 2025, wind developers have encountered setbacks such as a lack of communication from the Pentagon, canceled meetings, and notifications that applications are no longer being processed.

Letters sent to developers in early April indicated that the Pentagon is reviewing its processes for evaluating the national security impact of energy projects. The Trump administration has previously faced legal challenges for pausing wind projects due to classified national security risks related to radar interference.
