The Fribourg Canton police communications chief, Martial Pugin, confirmed on Wednesday that an intentional act is the most probable scenario. The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking additional witnesses to provide information regarding the moments preceding the fire. The incident marks the second major multiple-casualty fire in Switzerland within three months, following a New Year's Day bar fire in Crans-Montana that killed 41 people.
The affected vehicle was a PostBus, which provides transportation services in Swiss rural areas. Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed condolences to the victims' families and concern for the injured. PostBus has stated it will provide psychological support to its staff.
