Stellantis plans to transfer ownership of its Madrid plant to Leapmotor. The Chinese automaker is expected to begin production at the facility from 2028, including a model intended for sale in Europe and other markets outside China.
At Stellantis’s Zaragoza plant, the companies plan to produce a new jointly developed electric SUV under the Opel brand. The Zaragoza site already manufactures Leapmotor’s B10 model.
The collaboration also includes joint purchasing of parts, which the companies say is aimed at improving cost competitiveness.
Stellantis has positioned the deepened alliance as part of a broader effort to strengthen its performance in European and US markets.
