The Serendipity Arts Festival will return to Panaji, Goa, for its eleventh edition from December 13 to 20, 2026, transforming historic landmarks into cultural venues. The event emphasizes local Goan artists, culinary traditions, and heritage, integrating them with global artistic expressions.
Goan Focus Shapes Festival's Eleventh Edition
The festival's 2026 curatorial direction centers on Goan culture, featuring local artists, chefs, and craftspeople. Sunil Kant Munjal, Founder of Serendipity Arts, stated the festival aims to deeply integrate with its host city, a belief that has become more visible as the event enters its second decade. Shefali Munjal, Co-Founder, highlighted that much of this edition's content originates from Goa's kitchens, crafts, photographic memory, and architecture, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and intentional storytelling.
Accessibility and Culinary Inheritance
Salil Chaturvedi, a Goa-based writer and disability rights campaigner, leads the festival's Accessibility vertical, ensuring multisensory spaces and adaptive workshops for blind, deaf, and neurodiverse communities. In Culinary Arts, Anisha Rachel Oommen curates a program focused on Goa's regional food systems under the theme of 'inheritance.' This includes workshops with local practitioners exploring Konkani Muslim foodways, underwater aging of feni, monsoon food preservation, botanical flavor extraction, native Goan mango varieties, and the traditional Merenda evening tea ritual.
Visual Arts and Craftsmanship
Local history and visual memory feature prominently in the Visual Arts and Special Projects sections. Ram Rahman curates an archival exhibition showcasing Karan Kapoor's photographs of Goan tavernas, monsoons, and family life. The Makers Space project, conceptualized by Grounded, will host hands-on workshops in modular rammed earth structures, led by Goan craft specialists in stained glass, tile mosaics, carpentry, bamboo construction, and papier mâché.
Historic Venues Reanimated for Public Engagement
The festival will utilize iconic heritage buildings in Panaji, many typically closed or restricted to the public for most of the year. Key venues include the Old GMC Complex, the Directorate of Accounts building, ESG Complex, Azad Maidan, DB Ground, and the Art Park promenade. Smriti Rajgarhia, Director of Serendipity Arts, noted that opening these spaces to art and audiences creates new avenues for residents and visitors to connect with the city's living traditions and past.
Diverse Curatorial Panel Guides Program
A multidisciplinary curatorial panel shapes the festival's diverse program. Latika Gupta and Sheba Chhachhi oversee Visual Arts, while Kshitij Jalori and Sudheer Rajbhar manage Craft. Anisha Rachel Oommen directs Culinary Arts, Aruna Sairam and Ankur Tewari lead Music, and Ashley Lobo and Surjit Nongmeikapam guide Dance. Mahesh Dattani and Anuradha Kapur are responsible for Theatre, Salil Chaturvedi for Accessibility, and Sreyansi Singh, Padmini Chettur, and Ram Rahman for Special Projects. This collective expertise aims to foster dialogue across disciplines, engaging with themes of place, community, memory, materiality, and participation.
