A consortium led by venture capitalist Vinod Khosla has reached an agreement to acquire the Seattle Seahawks from the Paul Allen estate for a record-setting $9.6 billion. The transaction, which significantly exceeds the previous NFL franchise valuation record of $6.05 billion set by the Washington Commanders in 2023, is expected to undergo a formal vote by the league's 31 other owners next month.
The acquisition follows the mandate established in the will of the late Paul Allen, who purchased the franchise in 1997. Under the terms of the sale, the majority of the proceeds are designated for the Allen Family Philanthropies to support various charitable initiatives. As part of the transition, Khosla is required to divest his existing minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers to comply with NFL ownership regulations.
The ownership group will feature Neeru Khosla as the primary decision-maker, with Neal Khosla expected to assume a significant leadership role. This change in control occurs as the Seahawks prepare for the upcoming season, navigating the operational challenges of maintaining a championship-caliber roster while managing coaching staff turnover and the physical demands of a deep postseason run.
