Ukrainian drone strikes have targeted multiple logistics hubs belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, causing significant inventory losses and operational disruptions across the country. The attacks, which occurred over several days, hit facilities in Elektrostal, Kotovsk, Krasnodar, and Nevinnomyssk, resulting in casualties and the destruction of goods estimated at 1 billion dollars.
The strikes represent a strategic shift by Kyiv to disrupt supply chains that facilitate the procurement of dual-use components and military equipment. By targeting these hubs, Ukraine aims to degrade the logistical infrastructure supporting the Russian war effort. The mechanism of impact involves the destruction of centralized sorting and storage terminals, which forces independent sellers to absorb the financial losses of incinerated stock. Because Wildberries operates as a marketplace, the burden of these losses falls primarily on small and medium-sized enterprises rather than the platform itself.
The economic consequences are compounded by recent contractual changes that classify drone strikes as force majeure events, effectively shielding the retailer from liability for merchant losses. With 85 to 90 percent of Russia's economically active population relying on such platforms for essential goods, the sustained campaign threatens to destabilize domestic retail distribution. The long-term viability of these small businesses remains uncertain as the conflict continues to penetrate deep into Russian territory, challenging the state's ability to protect its internal commercial sector.
