Pakistan’s benchmark KSE-100 index posted a sharp advance on Monday, climbing 7,241.13 points, or 4.23%, to close at 178,262.33, according to market data. The move pushed the index back above the 178,000 level after a strong session that maintained momentum from the opening through the afternoon.
Data showed the index also reached an intraday high of 178,588.33. The session’s tone was positive early, with the rally building over the course of the day before ending near the peak.
KSE-100 retakes 178,000 after strong start
Market data showed the KSE-100 opened at 175,522.53 by 09:50 a.m., already well above the previous close of 171,021.20. The index crossed the 178,000 threshold by 03:09 p.m., at which point it was up 7,081.19 points on the day.
By the closing bell, the net rise stood at 7,241.13 points versus the prior close. The size of the gain highlighted broad risk-on trading, with participation evident across much of the session rather than confined to a late-day spike.
Geopolitics, oil prices, and policy clarity support sentiment
Analysts attributed the improved tone to easing geopolitical tensions following a pause in US–Iran strikes. They also pointed to a sharp decline in international oil prices, which they said added to investor confidence.
In parallel, the central bank said it kept the policy rate unchanged at 11.5%. Analysts said the decision aligned with market expectations and reduced a key uncertainty for local investors during the session.
Heavyweights drive a large share of the day’s advance
Market data indicated that a group of large index constituents accounted for a substantial portion of the move. UBL, FFC, ENGROH, MEBL and LUCK collectively contributed roughly 2,546 points to the index’s overall gain.
The concentration in a handful of heavyweights suggests that leadership from the largest names played an outsized role even as the broader index advanced.
Next 48 hours: oil and headline risk remain key variables
Traders are expected to focus closely on crude price direction and geopolitical developments over the next 48 hours. Analysts warned that renewed conflict or a rebound in oil prices could weigh on equities.
They also said that if calm conditions persist, the market could either stabilize after the surge or continue to build on Monday’s rally. The near-term path, they noted, remains sensitive to external headlines and energy price moves.
