Ohio State Appoints New President
Ravi Bellamkonda has been appointed the 18th president of The Ohio State University, succeeding Ted Carter who resigned.

The Ohio State University officially appointed Ravi Bellamkonda as its 18th president on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Bellamkonda, previously the university's executive vice president and provost, assumes leadership following the resignation of former president Ted Carter.
Bellamkonda's promotion occurred three days after Carter's resignation, which stemmed from an "inappropriate relationship with someone seeking public resources to support her personal business." Carter had served as president since January 2024. Bellamkonda joined Ohio State in January 2025 as chief academic officer, having previously held positions including provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University.
His academic background includes a Ph.D. from Brown University and a post-doctoral fellowship at MIT. Bellamkonda's prior roles include professorships at Case Western Reserve University and Georgia Tech, presidency of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and dean of engineering at Duke University. The Board of Trustees chairman, John W. Zeiger, cited Bellamkonda's innovation and ability to build trust as key factors in his appointment.
