Minnesota Braces for Weekend Winter Storm

A significant winter storm is forecast to impact central and southern Minnesota from Saturday evening through Sunday night, bringing heavy snowfall. This follows a previous system that delivered 9 to 14 inches of snow to northern Minnesota and the North Shore on Thursday night and early Friday, accompanied by wind gusts exceeding 60 mph in central and southern regions, including 70 mph in western Minnesota. The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for the affected areas.

The upcoming storm system is projected to move slower and carry more moisture than the preceding one, adopting a more southerly track. While scattered snow showers may occur Saturday morning, the primary snowfall event is expected to commence Saturday evening and continue through much of Sunday. Forecast models indicate that the heaviest snowfall, potentially exceeding one foot, will stretch across southern Minnesota into central and southern Wisconsin.

Forecasters anticipate some variability in the storm's exact track over the next 24 hours. The current outlook suggests significant heavy snowfall is increasingly likely, posing potential disruptions across the warned regions over the weekend.
