Motorin pump prices pass 100 TL in major cities

Officials said an extra 4.62 TL per litre surcharge on motorin took effect on Sept. 17, lifting pump prices above the 100 TL mark in Turkey’s largest cities.

Industry data showed Istanbul’s European side listed diesel at about 100.40 TL per litre, Istanbul’s Asian side at 100.20 TL, Ankara at 101.50 TL and İzmir at 101.80 TL after the adjustment. The rise follows a 6.5 TL diesel increase applied on Sept. 15 and a roughly 3.20 TL gasoline increase on Sept. 12.

Regional pump levels exceed prior peaks

The two-step September moves have repeatedly reset retail ceilings this month, industry officials said, with distributors and forecourts updating price boards in response to changes in wholesale costs and margin pass-through. Retail lists show the September diesel cumulative increase at roughly 11 TL per litre in some urban distribution zones when both hikes are tallied.

Higher pump rates feed directly into transport and logistics costs and, therefore, consumer prices for goods that rely on road freight, analysts said. That mechanism typically passes through to headline inflation indices with a lag of several weeks, depending on transport contract structures and subsidy buffers.
