Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Vladimir Putin on Sept. 11 to discuss steps toward a $100 billion bilateral trade goal and expanded cooperation across defence, energy and nuclear sectors, officials said. The leaders also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict and on diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.

Officials said the talks focused on practical measures to lift trade across goods and services and to broaden energy ties, including oil and long-term supply arrangements. Delegations reviewed existing projects and discussed new mechanisms to accelerate investment flows between state-backed firms and private companies.
Defence, energy and nuclear cooperation The two leaders discussed deeper defence industrial collaboration and joint projects in civilian nuclear power, officials said, while stopping short of announcing binding agreements. Energy discussions covered both hydrocarbons and strategic fuel supplies, with officials describing the talks as exploratory and aimed at building durable frameworks.
Officials said the leaders exchanged perspectives on the Ukraine conflict and on pathways for diplomatic engagement, without laying out a joint position. Officials added that follow-up meetings of ministerial teams are expected, and that negotiators will seek to present a consolidated timetable by December 31, 2026.
