Gaza office reports 73,000 deaths after 1,000 days

Palestinian government media officials said Thursday that more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza over 1,000 days of war, with more than 90% of the territory destroyed. Reaction pending. The figures were released as of July 2 and were presented by officials as a tally of deaths, displacement, infrastructure loss and hunger in the enclave.

Officials said Israel had seized control of more than 80% of the Gaza Strip, where 2.4 million people were facing war, starvation and forced displacement. They said the dead included more than 21,500 children and more than 12,500 women, with over 9,500 people still missing, including people believed trapped under rubble.

Gaza control and hospital damage

The statement said Israel had dropped more than 223,000 tons of explosives on Gaza and had struck the Al-Mawasi area, described by officials as a humanitarian zone, 241 times. Officials also said 38 hospitals and 96 healthcare centers had been shelled, destroyed or put out of service, while 197 ambulances were targeted.

The humanitarian toll now extends beyond direct fatalities. Officials reported 460 deaths from hunger and malnutrition, including 164 children, along with more than 12,000 miscarriages linked to lack of food and healthcare. They also cited more than 5,400 amputations, 1,500 paralysis cases and 1,200 cases of vision loss.

The conflict’s macro channel is geopolitical risk rather than a direct market print: prolonged fighting keeps pressure on regional diplomacy, aid flows and security calculations across the Middle East. Over the next seven days, any shift in ceasefire talks, access for food and medical supplies, or military control inside Gaza would shape the near-term path for humanitarian conditions and regional risk pricing.
