Russian Authorities Suspend Public Fuel Sales

Russian-backed officials in occupied Crimea suspended all public fuel sales on Monday following a series of Ukrainian drone strikes targeting regional oil infrastructure. Governor Sergey Aksyonov announced that petrol stations will now exclusively serve government agencies responsible for regional security and essential operations, marking the most severe restriction on fuel access since the 2014 annexation.

The suspension follows a coordinated Ukrainian drone campaign that struck an oil depot in Kerch, resulting in four fatalities and 28 injuries. Kyiv also targeted logistics facilities in the neighboring Krasnodar region, disrupting critical supply chains across the Kerch Strait. These strikes are part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to degrade Russian military logistics and diminish the economic viability of occupied territories.

The mechanism of these attacks involves long-range drone strikes on storage and transport infrastructure, which forces a contraction in available fuel supplies. This transmission creates immediate logistical paralysis for both civilian and military transport, increasing pressure on the Russian administration to maintain regional stability. While Moscow claims to have intercepted 239 drones overnight, the resulting fuel shortages remain acute. The duration of these restrictions remains indefinite as regional authorities assess the damage to the fuel market.
