Fugitive Gunned Down Near Paris

Eric Robic , a French national previously convicted over the 2011 hit-and-run death of Israeli woman Lee Zeitouni , was killed in a shooting on Thursday morning, April 16, 2026 , in Neuilly-sur-Seine , a suburb of Paris.

Officials said the attack happened at about 9:30 a.m. when two people riding an electric scooter approached Robic and opened fire at close range. The assailants then left the area within seconds, according to the same account. Robic was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m. .

The Paris JIRS (Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction) prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the killing. Authorities said the inquiry is focused on identifying those responsible and establishing the motive for what was described as a targeted shooting.

Public Prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed Robic had a criminal history going back to 1994 . She said his record included twelve convictions for financial offenses and aggravated involuntary manslaughter.

Robic’s best-known conviction stemmed from the death of Zeitouni in Tel Aviv . Officials said he received a five-year prison sentence in 2014 in a case that drew major public attention and became diplomatically sensitive.

Authorities recounted that the original incident occurred in 2011 , when Robic and an accomplice struck Zeitouni while driving under the influence and at excessive speed. Officials said the pair then left for France after the collision. A public campaign later pushed the case forward, leading to their prosecution in France, according to the same account.

The investigation announced Thursday has not publicly identified suspects or a motive. Officials have not said whether the killing is connected to Robic’s past convictions, leaving the reason for the attack unresolved as the inquiry proceeds.
