France Arrests Hundreds After PSG Win

French authorities arrested 416 individuals nationwide, including 283 in Paris, following violent clashes that erupted on May 31, 2026, after Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) Champions League victory. The unrest occurred as thousands of fans gathered in Paris to celebrate the team's win, despite a significant police deployment of 22,000 officers across France, with 8,000 in the capital.

The disturbances resulted in seven police officers sustaining injuries and damage to six vehicles and two businesses. Public transportation, including tram lines and several stations in Paris, was temporarily halted to mitigate the impact of the celebrations. A group of supporters also briefly blocked the Boulevard Peripherique, Paris's ring road, and set off flares.

Approximately 20,000 people converged on the Champs-Elysees avenue, where shops had boarded up windows in anticipation of potential unrest. Police seized two dozen flares and about 100 fireworks, and a bus shelter was destroyed. Near PSG's Parc des Princes stadium, where tens of thousands watched the match, a bakery and a restaurant were damaged, and clashes between police and supporters involved the use of tear gas against thrown projectiles.
