Fortuna Mining agreed to acquire the Bambadji gold project in Senegal from Barrick and IAMGOLD for $200 million, officials said. Reaction pending.
Consolidates 60 km along Senegal-Mali Shear Zone
Officials said the purchase gives Fortuna contiguous tenure of roughly 60 kilometers along the Senegal-Mali Shear Zone, a prolific regional structure for orogenic gold. The company described Bambadji as highly prospective and said the acquisition brings multiple advanced exploration targets into a single holding.
Transaction terms and scope
The parties agreed a cash consideration of $200 million, officials said. Fortuna said the deal includes the project’s exploration database and holdings necessary to coordinate a regional exploration programme; the sellers retain no operational role after closing, officials added.
Implications for Fortuna and the gold sector
Officials said Fortuna plans to prioritise drilling to upgrade targets and refine resource potential, with the aim of accelerating the project pipeline. The consolidation could alter project sequencing for producers focused on West African gold assets and reshape regional exploration activity if follow-on drilling confirms continuity between targets.
Officials said the transaction is expected to close by October 31, 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
