WNBA Player Files Protection Order

WNBA player Rickea Jackson filed a petition for protection against her ex-boyfriend, NFL player James Pearce Jr., in Florida, citing fears for her life following alleged physical abuse and stalking. The court granted an initial request for protection, with a permanent injunction hearing scheduled for April 21. Pearce is currently under court order to avoid contact with Jackson and maintain specific distances from her home, workplace, and vehicle.

The filing details multiple instances of alleged verbal and physical abuse by Pearce, including threats to kill or harm Jackson. On February 7, Pearce was arrested on battery and stalking charges after allegedly ramming his car into Jackson's vehicle near a Doral, Florida, police station. Jackson reported that Pearce pursued her at high speeds, blocked her car, and attempted to enter her vehicle before striking it multiple times. Pearce subsequently allegedly struck a police officer with his car before crashing and being apprehended.

Pearce, 22, faces five felony charges, including two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. Jackson, 24, stated in her petition that her fear intensified after attempting to end their relationship weeks prior to the February 7 incident. Police reports indicate at least seven other 911 calls involving Pearce and a former girlfriend between November and his arrest.
