Sky Secures $2.13 Billion Acquisition of ITV Media Assets

Sky has reached an agreement to acquire the media and entertainment unit of ITV for $2.13 billion. The transaction encompasses ITV’s commercial free-to-air television networks and its ITVX streaming platform. The deal excludes ITV Studios, which will remain a standalone entity.

This divestment separates ITV’s distribution and broadcasting operations from its content production business. ITV Studios will retain its existing intellectual property portfolio and has concurrently moved to acquire Love Productions to expand its production capabilities.

The acquisition allows Sky to consolidate its position in the U.K. media market by integrating additional broadcast and streaming assets into its existing pay-TV and telecommunications infrastructure. The move reflects broader industry trends toward scale and consolidation among major European media entities.

Market analysts note that the remaining ITV Studios entity may become a target for further acquisition. Industry participants have signaled that global scale is increasingly necessary to maintain competitiveness in the current media landscape.
