Black Sea port strike disrupts grain exports

Ukrainian forces struck Russia's Novorossiysk naval base overnight, damaging air-defence systems and two grain terminals and disrupting exports, officials said.

Officials said the attack used jet-powered drones and long-range missiles to target air-defence installations and port infrastructure, knocking operations at two major grain terminals offline.

Russian officials confirmed civilian casualties and reported damage to enterprises and buildings, saying teams were assessing the extent of destruction and the port's operational status.

The strike occurred during an exchange of long-range strikes between the two countries, officials said, and interrupted loading and handling at terminals that move agricultural shipments out of the Black Sea region.

The port serves as a key conduit for regional grain flows; if terminal outages persist, shipments from the area may slow and reduce available export tonnage in the near term, a dynamic that can tighten supply for international buyers.

Officials said they will provide updated damage assessments and the expected timetable for restoring operations within the next 72 hours, and traders will be watching changes in loadings and vessel schedules as the situation evolves.
