Assailant Dead After Synagogue Attack
An assailant died after ramming a vehicle into a Michigan synagogue and exchanging gunfire with security, injuring one guard.

An unidentified assailant was killed on Thursday, March 12, 2026, following a vehicle ramming and active shooter incident at Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, United States. The individual drove a vehicle into the synagogue, which also houses an early learning center, and exchanged gunfire with security personnel.
Oakland Sheriff Mike Bouchard reported that the assailant was found dead in the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. The cause of death remains under investigation. One security team member was hospitalized after being struck by the vehicle; no other injuries were reported. Authorities are currently sweeping the site for explosives.
FBI Director Kash Patel described the event as an "apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation." The incident occurred amidst heightened concerns regarding antisemitism and Islamophobia, following recent conflicts in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump was briefed on the situation.
